2013 Sydenham Canoe Trip Race Results

The canoe race results have been posted.
In the recreation class, since we were already on our 3rd day of recreational canoeing:
Randy and Josh received 4th place with a time of 50:40! Only 22 seconds away from the 3rd place finishers.
Kenny and Philip finished 6th place with a time of 55:20!
& technically
Kevin and Adrian finished 8th place (in the recreation class) with a time of 59:58!
This year was the fastest race year yet for us, and apparently was the fastest race that the St. Clair Conservation Authority has ever had.
Will be posting more pictures and video soon from the 2013 trip.
I will also be posting our “Final Thoughts” and a couple new sections, “Lessons Learned (maybe)” and “Awards!”.

Timely Breakfast

Anonymous asked: How cold was it last night for you fellows?

Was cold for some.depends who was snuggling and type of sleeping bag you had. :)… I think it was colder in the water for Adrian and Kevin this morning. :(

The water is cold

1 minute after leaving camp 1, Adrian and Kevin took a dip in the sydenham…. Lost a paddle, had to chase after a bag of water with a tent in it, and another bag of water with a sleeping bag in it. Also list a boot.
Thanks goes out to the ‘recovery team’ and the ‘tow team’.
Mother is on her way with supplies.

The unfortunate has happened.. People went in, some stuff got lost, 1 paddle lost.. we gotta do some towing.

Camp 1 Update

As you can see from the pictures, we’ve made it to camp 1. Kenny and Phil almost went into the drink, randy and josh can’t keep the canoe straight, they blame the type of canoe…. Kevin had a lot of go pro accidents, running into things video trapping stuff instead of steering the canoe.
But the ultimate gopro accident was when the gopro decided to go for a swim and never came back.
Time to eat.

hOt Dawg !!

That grin….

What's this guy got planned......?

Watchin

We like to watch em struggle :) haha

Getting ready for takeoff.

Update Friday - Plans change

The group is no more going to be the biggest yet.
We’re back down to 3 canoes with 6 people.
Pat & Troy won’t be making it into the record books for our the 2013 canoe trip.  There’s always next year.

Are you guys excited yet?! :)) (hi Adrian
Answer:
I’m sure most of us are excited.  I’m pumped, can’t wait to get into the water.  There still seems to be a lot of unplanned disruptions, as there may be one less canoe, as one groups canoe borrowing plans may have gone downhill.. we’re still trying to find out.. Even in this day and age, it still seems to be hard to get a hold of some people.
Had to jump into work this morning, deal with some things, no biggie.
Making sure the GoPro is charged, and memory card ready for hopefully some great videos of our trip.  Any video with the GoPro won’t be posted until after the trip.
I’m sure Adrian says “Hi” back! whoever you are.. Anonymou

2013 Sydenham Canoe Trip

It’s been a very busy year for most of us..
and our Sydenham Canoe trip is on once again for 2013, and it’s all going down this weekend.
The roster this year has been under some great changes. People dropping in and out, some have work or have other issues and can’t make it, which allowed us to add some new unprepared nitwits who have no clue what’s in store for their weekend of hurt.
Ready for the biggest canoe trip roster ever?
I’m not sure any of us are, but we’re trying it.
Usually once you have a “partner” for this trip, it doesn’t change unless
someone can’t make it, then there is a sub-in for that year… this year,
there are so many changes, drop outs, additions that we’ve really messed with the groupings..
As the groups stand so far.. in order of importance (j/k n/r haha)
Philip (4th Attempt) & Kenny (5th Attempt)
Kevin (6th Attempt) & Adrian (2nd Attempt I think)
Randy (4th Attempt) & Josh (Unsuspecting 1st year nitwit)
Pat (Unsuspecting 1st attempt nitwit) & Troy (Unsuspecting 1st attempt
nitwit)
That’s right… 8 6 people.. most ever.
That’s right… 4 3 canoes.. most ever.
It’s going to be interesting to say the least.
Weather Forecast (Alvinston Weather Link) (the following is forecast at time of writing this):
- Friday, High of 15C, Low of 6C, Light Rain 5mm
- Saturday, High of 5C, Low of 0C, Cloudy
- Sunday, High of 6C, Low of 2C, Cloudy
As you can see, the weather looks like April…. Weather is subject to
change. I’ll try to post the updated weather day of take-off.
We’ll be launching again near Rokeby Line, NE of Alvinston, as done in
previous years.
Packing has not started as of yet.. it will happen I’m sure.
This year, again, we hope to make the canoe race.
I don’t think many people read this, as we just do this blog to keep a
running library for us to look back on, but if anyone out there would like
to sponsor us for the canoe race, money goes to the St. Clair Region
Conservation Foundation, as seen from this pledge form for the race.
Just contact one of us, if you know us, or send us your contact information in the “Ask Us Anything ” section of this site, and we’ll get back to you ASAP.
